You can also think of it as the &#8221;next level&#8221; of emotional-skills coaching.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In the end, no one else can tell you what truly matters in your life \u2014 or who you really are.<\/strong> That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s important to be able to explore your bodily and emotional experience on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through inquiry, you learn to come into contact with the parts of yourself that have understood all along who you ultimately are and where you are heading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>holding experience<\/em> this practice makes possible supports the growth of your &#8221;presence muscles,&#8221; allowing the exploration of your own inner space to deepen independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The practice supports reaching a connection with your own body and your own emotions. Unlike in meditation, in inquiry another person&#8217;s gaze holds your presence practice. How does inquiry differ from these?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Circling, nonviolent communication, and radical honesty, for example, are all useful ways of exploring one&#8217;s own experience, interaction patterns, and especially the self as it manifests in interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of inquiry is not primarily or solely work at the level of interaction, even though a practice partner supports you while doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within a clear and safe framework, inquiry also makes it possible to become acquainted with deeper layers of selfhood and presence, and with the different qualities of presence (essence): for example, Power, Strength, Joy of Life, Compassion, and Inner Support \/ Self-Confidence.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>Are there any prerequisites for starting the inquiry practice? Do I need to know something beforehand?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can come to inquiry guidance whenever you feel it&#8217;s important to learn to explore your own experience independently. There are no special prerequisites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior experience with embodied methods, emotional work, mindfulness, or meditation is helpful, but inquiry also supports the strengthening of these capacities. The practice is tailored to you and to your needs in each moment.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>Why learn the practice with a professional?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inquiry is, in practice, an endlessly deepening learning experience in what working with oneself actually is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the practice is fairly simple in outward form, it holds a great deal of depth that is easier to access with an experienced practitioner. I have done this practice in various contexts for nearly ten years, with both clients and loved ones. The journey keeps deepening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taking hold of certain basic principles at the start ensures that the practice can keep deepening further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Learning the practice with someone more experienced ensures that, over the long term, you draw out the full benefit it has to offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How does a session unfold?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We meet at the beginning of the session in conversation, and the lead-in to the practice itself happens gradually within it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inquiry, in the form we typically practice it, includes a question that the witnessing party can also repeat during the practice. Questions might be, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tell me something about what is happening in you right now.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is your inner critic telling you right now?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are you curious about right now?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question is offered as a prompt to direct attention, but it isn&#8217;t necessary to answer it. The path deeper into the practice runs along bringing attention to your own experience: through observing thoughts, feeling emotions, and sensing the sensations of the body. The path is right here, all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the practice can lead toward sensitive themes or even into a deep meditative state. That&#8217;s why, especially in the early stages, it&#8217;s important to ensure through clear ground rules that getting to know the practice is safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the actual practice has begun, we avoid social interaction. After the practice ends, you have the chance to share something of your experience with me for a little while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s also helpful to make sure that, after the booked session, you have space to be with yourself and digest what you&#8217;ve experienced, without obligatory social interaction with others immediately afterward.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How do I use inquiry to support a meditation practice?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have reached your own inner support, power, curiosity, compassion, clear-sightedness \u2014 and so on \u2014 with the support of inquiry, it becomes easier to find your way to them independently as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, what sometimes stands in the way of meditation is that there are things inside you that haven&#8217;t been expressed but long to be heard. In inquiry, different parts of the personality can be heard, so that it becomes easier to relax into meditation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you get a hold of presence through meditation practice, it also strengthens your inquiry practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a mindfulness practice, inquiry can also support any independent meditation practice you may have. Meditation and present self-reflection are like two sides of the same coin, each able to support the other.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>I already attend emotional-skills coaching or therapy! When is it worth starting to practice inquiry?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the path of self-knowledge you sometimes reach a point where you no longer need the coach&#8217;s active involvement so much. And yet a present meeting with yourself, held in another&#8217;s neutral support, is still needed. The inquiry practice supports you here.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How does inquiry differ from coaching?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a professional, I can support you in various ways on the journey toward meeting yourself. Coaching can help recognize and clarify what it actually is, as we gradually come closer to ourselves: we learn to be in closer relationship with the sensing of our body, with the psychological parts at work within us, and with our emotions \u2014 to stay present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you go further, it can begin to become tangible to you that the answers to life&#8217;s most important questions are found in the silence that resides within us. In contact with that silence, we begin to meet our own selves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This doesn&#8217;t mean you might not still need support on your journey deeper into yourself. All genuine progress on the inner journey still takes effort, and companions making the same journey can also be a great help. But once you recognize that all the resources are ultimately within you yourself, the quality of the support you need may change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inquiry coaching is a supported way of moving toward more independent inner work. If you do other self-investigation work, inquiry can be a good support for sustaining your own presence over the long term \u2014 and in a financially sustainable way, without large costs.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>Where does the practice come from?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presence practices of this kind, involving self-reflection, appear in various traditions and have been practiced throughout human history for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The practice has been taught for years now, to some extent in Finland too, at self-development events. Its use across various subcultures, however, is growing strongly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;d like to dive even deeper into the practice, you can explore the source work: A.H. Almaas&#8217;s <strong>Spacecruiser Inquiry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"varaa\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Set out on an adventure into yourself!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first session we always get acquainted, in practice, with the basic way inquiry works. The most important thing is simply to begin!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once we&#8217;ve learned the practice together, it can also be adapted to do on your own. I recommend practicing inquiry independently between our sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>As you continue further, inquiry can also be combined with understanding about self-knowledge. The structure of inquiry and creating the holding experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The inner critic, and how the structure of the self reacts to presence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your own power, resistance to power and aliveness, and curiosity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connection with another \u2014 meeting the object relations occurring within me from a place of presence<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inquiry serves as a gentle introduction to the central themes of self-knowledge. Each of these themes, of course, holds enough depth for several sessions (or a long retreat). So we can stay with the same theme for several sessions if you wish.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you wish, you can also request a theme for the exploration.
